Extension of Deadline for Submission of Employer’s Return for 2025

Two decrees were issued by the Council of Ministers and published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cyprus on 27 March 2026 concerning VAT. Through these decrees the VAT rate on some essential goods is reduced to 0% and on household electricity to 5%.

For what concerns essential products the elimination of VAT is in force during the period between 6 April 2026 and 30 September 2026 and applies to the following items:

Meat Products (fresh, chilled or frozen)

  • Bovine meat
  • Swine meat
  • Sheep or goat meat
  • Edible offal of bovine animals, swine, sheep and goats
  • Meat and edible offal of the poultry
  • Other meat and edible offal, rabbits and hares

Fish and seafood (fresh, chilled or frozen)

  • Fish
  • Cuttle fish, squid and octopus

 

In relation to household electricity the reduction of the VAT rate to 5% applies for the period 1 May 2026 until 31 March 2027. The reduction pertains to electricity supplied under the following tariffs of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus:

  • Residential single meter tariff
  • Residential dual meter tariff
  • Special residential tariff for vulnerable consumers
  • Thermal energy storage tariff linked to specific tariffs
